Red Bull Racing F1 manager Christian Horner has just announced an unknown competitor who comes from nowhere to bench race master Max Verstappen.
After Max Verstappen‘s incredible 10th straight victory at the Italian Grand Prix, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner declared that he thought his driver was untouchable at the moment.
After a string of outstanding performances this season, Verstappen’s triumph for Red Bull at Monza cemented the record. With six races left, the 25-year-old Dutchman could win the world championship as early as the Japanese Grand Prix, thanks to his virtually insurmountable lead.
Ever since his teammate Sergio Pérez emerged victorious in Baku in April, Verstappen has not faced opposition.
Horner feels that he is performing at a level that is practically unbeatable. “Max, he’s driving at an unbelievable level and breaking records,” he exclaimed. “I’m positive that nobody in the world could currently outperform Max Verstappen in this vehicle.”
Aware that Verstappen’s dominance would be detrimental to the sport as a whole, he also demanded that Verstappen be acknowledged for his accomplishments. Horner stated, “You have to acknowledge and support what Max is doing right now.” It’s truly remarkable to have accomplished what he did. That shouldn’t be diminished in any way by us. Things like this hardly ever happen in sports. I believe that both the squad and him are experiencing a fantastic moment.
They have won 24 of the last 25 races, and Horner admitted that they were essentially in new territory in terms of success. “We’re creating history with everything we’re doing right now, and opportunities like that don’t come along very often.”
Verstappen’s accomplishment was labeled as “completely irrelevant” by Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, who said he wouldn’t have been concerned about the record during Mercedes’ run of eight consecutive constructors’ titles and seven drivers’ crowns.
“These kinds of records are totally irrelevant to me,” said Wolff. “They didn’t matter during our successful Mercedes days; I’m not sure how many races we won in a row, and I didn’t even realize there was a record for winning multiple races in a row. The outcome clearly demonstrates how highly skilled drivers are competing in excellent cars.
