After joining from Rennes for a club record sum of over £13 million, the 109-cap former Ghana international scored in his Premier League debut against Wigan Athletic and again in a League Cup match against West Ham.

Later, in a 2-0 victory over Stoke City, Gyan scored twice for the Black Cats on his debut Premier League start. The striker, who finished his career with 51 goals for his nation, will also never forget his goal in injury time during a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United in January 2011.

The following season, the Black Cats finished in 10th place, and Gyan was the club’s top scorer in the Premier League. However, the striker went on loan for Al Ain shortly after the season began.

Later, the relocation was made permanent, and Gyan spent time playing in China, Dubai, Turkey, India, and Ghana. Now, two years after leaving the game, Gyan has made an emotional social media announcement to officially proclaim his retirement from football.
