It’s heartbreaking: Denver Broncos head coach Mike Garrett made a powerful statement and said the club and supporters farewell when he unexpectedly left.
DENVER (News Gray) Russell Wilson, a seasoned quarterback, was cut by the Denver Broncos on Monday. On X, formerly known as Twitter, GM George Paton and Head Coach Sean Payton released a statement.Wilson will be cut, the team stated, following the start of the new league year on March 13.
The statement read, “On behalf of the Broncos, we thank Russell for his contributions and dedication to our team and community and wish him the best of luck as he pursues his career.”
Prior to the 2022 season, Wilson was moved to the Broncos after spending ten years with the Seahawks of Seattle. Sports Illustrated said that in September of that year, he inked a $245 million, five-year contract extension.
Russell Wilson of the Denver Broncos takes on the Los Angeles Chargers on December 31 at Empower Field at Mile High.
“Finding a quarterback is critical for our division,” Payton stated. “I came across a funny meme featuring a Broncos supporter wearing a shirt with the names of eight quarterbacks and a cross across each one. It is our responsibility to ensure that the following one is free of lines.”
Russell Wilson informed former Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall that he wanted to stay in Denver the day before Payton’s remarks
and he intends to play in two Super Bowls over the next five years.
The Broncos appear to be on the market for a quarterback, even if it seems highly improbable that Wilson will return to Denver. In an interview with the media at the Indianapolis Combine, general manager George Paton virtually verified that.
“Sean needs to see all these quarterbacks, and our coaches need to see all these quarterbacks until we make an informed decision,” stated Paton. “The more you are around them (quarterbacks), the better decision you’ll make.”
