Micah Parsons, an outside linebacker with the Dallas Cowboys, is among the best pass rushers in the league. Parsons is used to great effect by defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, and the Cowboys have one of the strongest teams in the NFL this year.
The Cowboys are fourth in terms of allowed points per game and third in terms of allowed yards per game. In addition, as a team, they have 37 sacks this season, good for fourth place in the NFL. With 11.5 of those, Parsons is just two fewer than the league’s top pass rusher, T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
It’s safe to say Parsons is doing his share, and even without Trevon Diggs (season-long injured), the Cowboys have a very strong secondary behind Micah. Why then does Dallas require greater assistance?
Shaq Leonard is brought in by Micah Parsons to the Dallas Cowboys
Due to the significant injuries sustained by the Cowboys, linebacker is still a weak spot at the present, as FanSided’s Cody Williams detailed last week:
But there are still concerns about depth, particularly at linebacker. The Cowboys currently have Clark, converted safety Markquese Bell (who has also been excellent), and just signed former first-round choice Rashaan Evans on their active roster. It’s not like there are a ton of options in that position group to diversify looks or even in case another injury occurs. Leonard might enter and make that different,” Williams wrote.
Parsons is making an effort to persuade Leonard to sign with Dallas.
Though his output has been limited the past several seasons as he returned from back surgery, Leonard was unexpectedly released by the Colts. Leonard expressed his dissatisfaction with his part in Indianapolis, citing it as the main factor in his eventual dismissal.
“I usually say that up until you walk on someone’s toes, they say [complaints] are OK. According to ESPN’s Stephen Holder, Leonard stated on Tuesday, “I stand by what I said two weeks ago.” “I’m not sure if that had any influence. Do I believe it has any bearing at all? Yes, since it can appear to them as a diversion. However, I made an effort to answer in a kind manner.”
Leonard ought to have a lot of opportunities on the other end of the field given the effectiveness of the Cowboys attack.
