During his midseason press conference, Danny Briere read a statement regarding Carter Hart’s indefinite leave of absence from the Flyers and discussed the team’s goaltending situation.

Carter Hart, the goalie for the Flyers, was not present at Tuesday’s morning skate. The team announced that Hart will be out indefinitely for personal reasons. General manager Danny Briere issued the following statement through the Flyers: “Carter Hart has been granted an indefinite leave of absence, with the excuse that it is for personal reasons. At this point, the club will not be providing any more comments.

Tuesday night, Samuel Ersson got the start as the Flyers fell short against the Lightning, 6-3. As a backup for Ersson, Cal Petersen was called up from AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley. “With Hartsy out, it hurts,” Cam York remarked following the match. With the statement that it would “endeavor to determine the underlying facts and, to the extent this may involve players who are now in the NHL, we will determine what action, if any, would be appropriate,” the NHL declared that it would launch an investigation in May 2022. When Team Canada won gold at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship, Hart was the starting goalie.

The league’s investigation has not been updated. If Hart’s leave of absence has anything to do with the investigation, it has not been disclosed. Hart declared in September 2022 that he was “respecting the process” and “fully cooperating” with the NHL’s inquiry. Hart then remarked, “I can’t really talk about it right now.”
