The Conventry city head coach has announced captain Liam Kelly’s retirement

After joining City in League One in 2019, Liam Kelly, 35, inked a contract in April of last year that would keep him with the team through the end of the current campaign.

Following the World Cup, he sustained a calf tear during a training camp, which prevented him from playing in the season’s restart.

However, he made a comeback appearance in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Luton Town.

After taking back the team’s captaincy, Sky Blues manager Mark Robins was pleased with his performance.

After joining the Sky Blues from Burton Albion, the former defender for Sheffield United, Alfreton, Crawley, and MK Dons has netted six goals in 137 games.

With just one victory in their last eight league games since Christmas, Coventry, currently in 14th place, is just seven points outside of a play-off spot heading into their home match against Millwall on Tuesday.
