When Brandon was still a graduate assistant at Northern Illinois, the couple first got together in 2007. Four years later, while Brandon was still on his way to the NFL, they got married.

For Brandon, Amy has been a rock as he pursues his goals. Let’s get to know Amy Ward, the wife of Brandon Staley.

The history of Amy Ward
Growing up, Amy was in Sycamore, Illinois. When she met Brandon, she was two months away from graduating from Northern Illinois with a degree in education. Brandon served as the football team’s graduate assistant coach at NIU.

Amy played club volleyball in high school with the goal of playing collegiately. She played volleyball for ten months out of the year, excelled academically, and engaged in extracurricular activities. Her ultimate objective was to be awarded a full scholarship by NIU.

Amy had to give up playing volleyball due to a bilateral foot injury. She shifted her attention to working at the NIU Athletic Department front desk and completing her education degree. She didn’t know that Brandon was fighting Hodgkins lymphoma when she first saw him in the athletic department.

Amy completed her graduate degree in reading at John Carroll University along the way. The NFL called for her when she was hired as an instructor there, so she had to decline the offer because she knew there would be better opportunities. She is now a mother who stays at home. Amy is a strong supporter of literacy in the community and is an active volunteer for this cause.
