The Seattle Seahawks have officially signed another strong player who possesses a high level of sophistication.
As for the Seattle Seahawks, a new era begins.
Pete Carroll has been the head coach and Executive Vice President of Football Operations for 14 years, yet he has passed the torch. John Schneider assumes a new job as general manager in addition to President of Football Operations, replacing Mike Macdonald as coach.
For the second straight season, the Seahawks ended 9-8, but this time they were short on the support needed to qualify for the postseason. Schneider felt the club performed below expectations, and it’s clear that ownership thought adjustments should be made. The Seahawks roster will still likely alter throughout the offseason, but how much and at what positions?
Although it’s unlikely that Geno Smith will be the starting quarterback for Seattle the following season due to his guaranteed salary and contract restructuring, it’s still possible that he may be dealt. Drew Lock, his backup, is a free agent without restrictions. Will Schneider attempt to re-sign him in the same capacity or maybe as the team’s next starter?
Leonard Williams, a defensive lineman, and linebackers Bobby Wagner and Jordyn Brooks are the most well-known free agents. Because of the Williams deal, Seattle is without a second-round pick, so it will be intriguing to watch what they do with “Big Cat.”
The Seahawks will have seven picks total in the NFL Draft (which takes place on April 25–27), including two third-round selections. They will be eligible to play at No. 16 overall.
