“After a period of self-reflection, I have decided it’s time for me to walk away from the game of football,” Adderley stated. “I have been denying this realization for the last few years, but I’m going to prioritize myself once. My health comes first, and everyone who knows me knows it.
“I believe I have yet to scratch the surface of the player I could be, but if it’s at the expense of my peace of mind, then it’s no longer for me,” Adderley stated.

In his farewell letter, Adderley also expressed his desire to “chase my passion of true liberation”—that is, to no longer be an employee, own his own business, and spend more time with loved ones.
The Chargers selected Adderley in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent his whole rookie contract with Los Angeles, and over the course of his career, he made over $6.5 million.
At the beginning of the new league year on Wednesday, Adderley became a free agent, and ESPN reports that he was not anticipated to sign with the Chargers again.
Adderley was a consistent presence on defense during his four seasons with Los Angeles. Throughout his career, he recorded 232 tackles, two forced fumbles, and three interceptions. In the midst of the 2022 season, he was replaced as the starting quarterback.
