It’s heartbreaking: A very Bufalo Bills player has announced his sudden retirement, sending a powerful statement and bidding the team and supporters a heartfelt farewell.
On cutdown day in late August, the former starting middle linebacker for the Houston Texans was released. Fans expected him to eventually be promoted to the 53-man roster and start games when the Bills signed him to the practice squad. That is not going to occur right now.
Garafolo also reports that the Bills will add linebacker A.J. Klein back to the practice squad due to Kirksey’s retirement plans.
Reuniting with LB A.J. Klein, the Bills are anticipated to take Kirksey’s spot on the practice squad, according to sources.
Klein has spent the last four seasons with the team on and off, so he is familiar with the system. With veteran assistance, it makes sense to make the move, and the Bills need to support Bernard.
In the past month, Kirksey has become the second player for the Bills to abruptly retire. Brandon Shell, an offensive tackle, retired in August.

After beginning his career with the St. Louis Rams, London Fletcher-Baker signed with the Buffalo Bills in 2002. With 209 tackles in his rookie season, he set a franchise record for tackles. Up until 2007, when he left to join the Washington Football team, he would play in Buffalo.
It was during the 1995 offseason that Ted Washington visited Buffalo. In 1994, following his 49ers trade to the Broncos, he had played in Denver. Buffalo released Washington in 2000 due to problems with the salary cap and his inability to accept a pay reduction.
Mario Williams Williams may be the Buffalo Bills’ largest-ever free agent acquisition. With the signing of a six-year, $100 million contract in 2012, he became the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. Before being let go during the 2016 offseason, he spent five seasons as a player for the Bills.
One of the best safety tandems in the NFL is Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer, who inked a five-year contract with the Buffalo Bills in 2017. In 2021, Hyde was selected as an NFL 2nd Team All-Pro.
James Lofton arrived in Buffalo in 1989 and played in three Super Bowls with the Bills before leaving the team in 1992. Lofton played for the Bills for three seasons, accumulating 2,736 receiving yards overall.
