It’s Heartbreaking: A very loyal Dallas Cowboys player has announced his sudden retirement, sending a powerful statement and bidding the team and supporters a heartfelt farewell.
James Tamou, a fan favorite of the North Queensland Cowboys, has announced his immediate retirement from the NRL.
After making his Cowboys debut in 2009, the 34-year-old revealed the news during halftime of his team’s game against the Sharks. He has played in 307 first-class games overall.
Tamou also played for the Panthers and Tigers before concluding his career with a final season in Townsville.
He was also a part of the Cowboys team that won the 2015 NFL championship. A Lisfranc injury has kept him out of the lineup this season.
Tamou stated on WWOS, “I’ve just announced it to the world, but internally I kind of knew.”
“I was not able to ask for more. I’ve traveled the world, and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have made one final trip up here. Regretfully, you must pay attention to your body.
Jonathan Thurston, a former teammate who is now a pundit, questioned Tamou about his best professional moment.
“Obviously, as one ages, one realizes that championships are scarce, which is why the 2015 Cowboys title was so special to him,” he remarked.

This place holds many wonderful memories, and what a wonderful way to end it.
“One of the benefits of rugby league is that I made lifelong friends.” While some view it as a career, others view it as a way of life.
“I consider myself lucky to have been in the game long enough to endure the long haul and develop lasting relationships along the way.”
Tamou also participated in State of Origin from 2012 to 2016 and won 14 caps for the NSW Blues in addition to playing 12 Tests for the Kangaroos.
