Don Deal: The Green Bay Packers are satisfied to officially welcome a free agent who has agreed to sign a five-year contract

The good news for the Green Bay Packers, who have dropped their last four games, is that outside linebacker Rashan Gary has agreed to a four-year contract extension.

Using social media, Gary revealed the four-year, $107 million extension, which came with a $34.6 million signing bonus. Without disclosing the terms, the Packers announced the extension later on Monday.

According to a person with knowledge of the matter who spoke with The Associated Press, Gary will be able to make $107 million by the end of the current contract, which extends until 2027, since he will be receiving an additional $96 million in funding in addition to his $10.8 million salary from 2023. The team hasn’t disclosed the terms, so the person spoke to the AP under the condition of anonymity.

On Monday, Gary said to reporters, “Man, it just makes me hungry.” “I’m in awe of the organization that believed in me, trusted me, and saw my growth since I started here. They see the man I’m still becoming, the player I’m working to become, and the person I’m still rising to become.”

With this deal, one of the top overall picks in the draft commits to a long-term career with the struggling Packers (2-5). If Gary hadn’t accepted an extension, he would have been free to sign with any team after the season.

Gary said that on Sunday, he signed the extension.

Gary remarked, “To be honest, it really hasn’t hit me yet.” “I put my signature on it. It was a beautiful occasion. For me, it was excellent. My mother and sister were able to visit me, and we like to refer to ourselves as “The Three Musketeers.” Words really can’t express how I feel about signing a contract that important with my family, who are my foundation.

Gary, who turns 26 on December 3, has a team-high 4½ sacks despite playing few snaps in the early part of the season while recovering from an ACL tear. In the two games the Packers have played so far, a 19-17 loss away to Denver and a 24-10 loss at home to the Minnesota Vikings, he has only started more than half of the defensive plays.
