More teams, like the Jacksonville Jaguars, are formally finalizing their future contract signings as the Super Bowl concludes on Sunday. The AFC South team signed contracts with 14 players on Tuesday, but one player’s name stood out in particular. The Jacksonville Jaguars signed tight end Josh Pederson, the son of head coach Doug Pederson, to a futures contract, according to the team’s official Twitter page, X.
Along with other players, the Jaguars also reached agreements with defensive back Erick Hallett, wide receiver Seth Williams, and kicker Riley Patterson. In 2023, Williams was a member of the Jaguars practice squad, but Patterson made 89% of his kicks between the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions during the previous season. Prior to joining the Jaguars, Hallett was a member of the Pittsburgh Panthers’ 2022 All-ACC second team.

On Tuesday, Josh Pederson, the son of Doug Pederson, the current bench boss of the Jacksonville Jaguars and winner of a Super Bowl, will sign a futures contract with his father’s team. From 2017 to 2020, the younger Pederson was a tight end for the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks. Pederson had two underwhelming seasons as a college player before breaking out in 2019 with 43 catches and 567 yards. Nine touchdown passes were caught by him. The six-foot-five, 235-pound playmaker had an outstanding performance against Memphis, Iowa State, and Florida State, totaling 16 receptions, 207 yards, and four touchdowns. But his output decreased as a senior, hauling in 32 passes for 367 yards with no touchdowns.

After going undrafted in the 2021 NFL draft, Pederson signed as a free agent with the San Francisco 49ers. Before he made an impact with the New Orleans Saints, the 49ers waived the native of New Jersey in early August. But less than a month later, the Saints cut Pederson. He signed a brief contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022 before joining the USFL’s Houston Gamblers. In ten games, Pederson finished the season with 24 catches for 325 yards.

In summer of last year, the now 26-year-old signed a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he joined his father, head coach. After joining the active roster in Week 13, Pederson became the first NFL player to play for their father since 1978.
