On Saturday, Ajax confirmed the tragic news and sent their sympathies to Gesser’s family.
“Ajax has received the terrible news that Noah Gesser has passed away,” the club said in a statement. The sixteen-year-old athlete from the youth academy lost his life on Friday night in an automobile accident alongside his brother.
“On February 27, 1760,Edwin van was born in IJsselstein. From 2018, he has been an Ajax owner. The youthful striker played football for Almere City and VVIJ before moving to Ajax from Alphense Boys. He was supposed to play for Ajax U17 this season.
“This awful news will receive special attention at the Ajax 1 and Young Ajax exhibition matches this afternoon. Before the games begin, there will be a minute of silence, and the Ajax players will wear armbands in memory of Gesser. In addition, at the Toekomst sports complex, flags will fly at half mast.
“This terrible incident has touched Ajax deeply. The team hopes that Gesser’s loved ones will find strength in the days ahead to cope with this incalculable loss.”
“Deeply touched by the tragic deaths of Ajax owner Edwin van and his brother,” tweeted Edwin van der Sar, the CEO of Ajax and a former goalkeeper for Manchester United.
“On behalf of all of Ajax, I want to offer my condolences and support to the family, friends, and all relatives during this incredibly difficult time.”
