The Seahawks announced the dismissal of another important player due to his embarrassing extramarital affair and allegations of more rape.
Seattle A young woman claims that Jerramy Stevens, a tight end for the Seattle Seahawks, sexually abused her three years ago, and she is suing him. Stevens was recently accused with driving while intoxicated.
In the 2000 case, Stevens was taken into custody and held overnight while the sexual assault investigation was ongoing; however, no formal charges were brought.
The claims were vehemently refuted by Stevens’ attorney.
The 22-year-old woman claims that during their time as University of Washington students, Stevens sexually assaulted her outside of a fraternity party. She claims that in June 2000, after someone put a drug in her beer, Stevens forced himself on her and that the next day, she woke up with no memory of what had happened. Her lawsuit was filed on Wednesday in King County Superior Court.
According to the lawsuit, there is tangible proof from the woman’s hospital checkup that she had sex with Stevens.
A four-month police investigation, according to King County prosecutors, did not yield enough evidence to proceed with the case. The lawsuit claims that a witness at the party reported to 911 that two people were having intercourse in the bushes outside the fraternity home and that the woman looked like she was “out of it.”
According to the lawsuit, another witness saw Stevens fleeing the party at the time that the cops showed up.
As part of the inquiry, Stevens had a lie-detector test, which he passed, according to Stevens’ attorney Mike Hunsinger on Thursday.
“The victim doesn’t know, or claims she doesn’t know, what happened,” Hunsinger stated. “She was not raped by him. It seems she believes he did. She is mistaken, and he is correct.”
Hunsinger’s attorney, Rebecca Roe, declined to comment on her remarks on Thursday.
Seahawks representatives were silent.
The woman, whose sole identity in the case is her initials, is also suing the fraternity Sigma Chi, claiming that, in spite of her age, she was given two beers there. She claimed that she lost all muscle control, coordination, and memory of the evening after consuming one beer that was already open. According to the lawsuit, other witnesses said they saw her looking ‘out of it,’ bewildered, and stumbling.
The prosecution claimed to have uncovered no proof of the use of a date-rape drug.
Attorney Doug Luetjen, a Seattle native and former member of the fraternity, stated on Thursday: “We regard it as a very regrettable situation, but we’re currently embroiled in a court battle that essentially revolves around a disagreement between Jerramy Stevens and the woman. It truly is between the two of them.”
According to him, the fraternity insisted at the time and still does that it done nothing improper.
Following a traffic check on April 3, Stevens, 23, was charged with drunk driving in Kirkland Municipal Court last month. The charges came six weeks after police discovered two partially empty champagne bottles on his car’s floor.
Stevens had made a vow to address his off-field issues prior to the Seahawks selecting him with the 28th overall choice in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft.
Stevens agreed to terms in his five-year, $6.2 million contract last summer that would require him to reimburse a portion of his $2.3 million signing bonus should he be found guilty of any wrongdoing.
In 2000, Stevens drove into a nursing home and entered a plea deal for misdemeanor hit-and-run property damage while he was still at Washington, in addition to the ongoing investigation into the sexual assault. In 1998, while attending River Ridge High School in Olympia, Washington, he was taken into custody for taking part in a planned altercation.
