Another terrible news hit: Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder has sorrowfully announced…
Only eight months after Alfred Schreuder took over as Ajax’s manager in place of Erik ten Hag, the Dutch powerhouse has fired Schreuder.
Chief executive Edwin van der Sar announced Schreuder’s departure after Thursday night’s 1-1 home draw against struggling Volendam. He departs the Johan Cruyff Arena with Ajax in fifth place, seven points behind Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord, having not won their previous seven league games.
After the match, Van der Sar gave an explanation, saying, “It’s never nice to let go of people who worked hard.” However, we couldn’t carry on in this manner.”

“Ajax has immediately suspended Alfred Schreuder,” the team said in a statement confirming the news. The trainer’s contract will now end immediately, having been valid until June 30, 2024.
“The team’s lack of progress and the numerous points lost are the primary causes of this decision. The management of the club no longer believes that more cooperation is possible. Additionally, there will be no more working with assistant coach Matthias Kaltenbach.”
Van der Sar is cited as saying, “It’s a difficult decision, but one that has to be made. We had a strong start to the season and then dropped a bunch of needless points.

It has become more evident in recent weeks that he was unable to reverse the trend, even though, in our opinion, he was working with a formidable and championship-caliber team despite the numerous transfers. In recent weeks, we have also dropped a lot of points, and regrettably, we have not made any progress.”
Before the end of October, the team had only lost once in the league. A loss to PSV Eindhoven was followed by a stretch of six draws, both before and after the World Cup break.
