The head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars is Doug Pederson. He is among the four individuals in NFL history to have won the Super Bowl in both their roles as coach and player. His big-game coaching victory came in 2017 when he led the Philadelphia Eagles to victory. But he left Philadelphia in 2020, and in 2022, he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He led the Jags to their first postseason berth since 2017 in his first season in charge. The team also overcame a 27-0 deficit in the Wild Card game to advance to the Divisional Round. His ability as a coach was the source of all of his success, but so was the wonderful and encouraging person sitting next to him. Looking at Jeannie Pederson, the wife of Doug Pederson, will help us understand her life.

Since the late 1980s, when Doug Pederson was a quarterback at Northern Louisiana University, the two have been together. Although the exact date of the couple’s meeting is unknown, they have been married for 32 years, having tied the knot in 1991. It is immensely touching to witness a couple, like Doug and Jeannie, stick by each other through good times and bad, in an era when many marriages end abruptly. Their three sons have allowed them to create a splendid family of five members. But first, let’s take a look at Doug Pederson’s wife Jeannie’s early years before moving on to the sons and their shared life.

The Focus states that Jeannie Young gave birth to Jeannie Pederson in December 1969. She came from a working-class background and attended Louisiana College to further her education. She stated that she wanted to become a nurse, and she has, though not immediately. When the two went on their blind first date to Johnny’s Pizza in Monroe, Louisiana, some of her plans were altered. Speaking about that first date, Jeannie Pederson said the following:

“I had a significant other, but since Doug was a quarterback and all, I thought I’d have a look.” We got along well, and he was really kind and courteous. In addition, I could wear heels with him because of his height.

Obviously, it worked out nicely because in 1991, as Doug was wrapping up his college education, the couple got married. Four years later, Jeannie was living the life she had always dreamed of, while Doug Pederson was heading to Germany to try and restart his football career. In addition to becoming a registered nurse, she gave birth to Drew, their first child. He was a quarterback at Samford University and was born on December 2, 1995. Josh and Joel, their other two sons, also wanted to play football; during his career, Josh even made three attempts to be cut by NFL teams.

Remarkably, Jeannie participated in athletics at her university as well. She played basketball and represented her school, though she didn’t have much luck. She was an athlete, but her football knowledge was lacking. Jeannie discussed her football knowledge both before and after meeting and falling in love with Doug in an interview with SJ Magazine. Says she:

“My knowledge of football was quite limited when I first met Doug. Apart from that, I was aware of what the quarterback did, so no. He used to quiz me on NFL teams, and aside from the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints, I had no idea who the other teams were or if they were in the NFC or AFC. I now talk football with the guys and feel like one of them.
