Another terrible news hit: head coach of the Falcons, Raheem Morris, has sorrowfully announced…
Raheem Morris, the new head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, thanked Los Angeles Rams coach Steve Spurrier and Falcons owner Arthur Blank in a press release announcing his hiring. Morris also shared some personal thoughts about his feelings.
Head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, Raheem Morris, made his first remarks in public on Thursday night, following his official announcement as the team’s 19th head coach.
In the official press release from the Falcons, 47-year-old Morris made a statement.
“I am overjoyed for the opportunity for my family and I to return to Atlanta as the Falcons head coach,” Morris stated. “We know from firsthand experience what a first-class organization Atlanta is and what this team means to its city and its fans.”

Morris worked for the Falcons from 2015 to 2020. He began as the offensive pass game coordinator in 2015, advanced to the position of receivers coach from 2016 to 2019, took over as defensive coordinator in 2020, and, following a 0–5 start later in the season, was named interim head coach.
Morris received support from the locker room but was let go after finishing 4-7, a record that was ruined by five straight losses at the end of the season.
Nevertheless, Morris was interviewed by Falcons owner Arthur Blank at that time, and he conducted two more interviews with Morris during this cycle after head coach Arthur Smith was fired on January 7.
Morris and Blank had two meetings on February 20 and 23, with the second interview—which took place at Blank’s house, as it turned out, like many others—seemingly sealing the deal.
In the statement, Morris thanked Blank for his assistance.
“I am incredibly appreciative of Arthur Blank for his leadership and for this entire organization putting its trust in me to help lead this team.”
Morris also took a moment to send a parting message to Los Angeles, where he won his first Super Bowl in 2021 as the team’s defensive coordinator. Morris is the first African American head coach in Falcons history who is not an interim.
“I can’t thank the Rams organization enough for the experience and opportunity with the team,” Morris stated. “The Rams are an elite team in every way, from the Kroenke family to Kevin Demoff, Les Snead, Sean McVay, and the whole staff.
“We loved our time in L.A., loved the fans, and know the Rams continue to have a very bright future.”
