Another heartbreaking rumor stated that a prominent Green Bay player killed his wife by stabbing her due to drug misuse.

Someone is always rushing to add a new franchise quarterback to the Pittsburgh Steelers roster during this offseason, no matter where you look.

The gamut has put every name through its paces at least once, if not more, from NFL Insiders to clickbait bloggers. It has been suggested that players like Jimmy Garroppolo, Russell Wilson, and Aaron Rodgers are on their way to the Steel City based solely on the misrepresentation of player quotes that have been taken out of context.

Even though those players might not be very popular with their current teams, there hasn’t been much movement on their departure thus far. And for the Pittsburgh Steelers, depending on what it takes to acquire that signal-caller, it might be a costly error.

According to OverTheCap.com, the Steelers currently have a projected cap space of $28.7 million. That amount may change and ought to increase slightly based on the final value of the declared salary cap.

The Steelers now have extra cash to spare and are among the top ten teams with cap room going into the offseason, even though they aren’t the richest team to spend lavishly in free agency thanks to the $28.7 million in cap space.

A portion of those funds will definitely be required to re-sign or extend their free agents, which include Robert Spillane and J.C. Hassenauer, as well as wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, safety Terrell Edmunds, and cornerbacks Joe Haden and Ahkello Witherspoon.

Minkah Fitzpatrick, a starting free safety for the Steelers who is entering the fifth year of his rookie contract, is also sure to sign a big-money contract soon.

It would be difficult to imagine how Pittsburgh would be able to lure away some of the highest-paid quarterbacks from other teams if they were to spend some of that money doing what they always do, which is to keep their own players.

For instance, after renegotiating his contract with Green Bay to reduce his cap liability, Aaron Rodgers was paid roughly $27.5 million in 2021. However, Rodgers still owes the team $7.6 million for a void year in 2023, and Green Bay now faces a $46.6 million cap hit in 2022.

Over the next two seasons, Russell Wilson’s salary, which was $32 million in 2021—the highest cap number in the league for a quarterback—will increase to $37 million and $40 million. Although Wilson’s representatives will undoubtedly look for another big deal beyond that, Seattle will still be responsible for paying almost half of that sum.

The other high earners in the league for the upcoming campaign are Deshaun Watson, who has a $40.4 million cap number, Kirk Cousins ($45 million), and Matt Ryan ($48.6 million).
