Another terrible news hit the 49ers as Kyle Shanahan has sorrowfully announced…
The 49ers were unharmed going into the Super Bowl, but linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who was hurt while racing onto the field, had a terrible injury.
After being assessed in the medical tent, his lower leg injury has been classified as doubtful, and he is expected to return. He was driven to the locker room by the cart that emerged.
Upon Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles’ entry into the game, Oren Burks moved to take Will Greenlaw’s LB position.
Linebacker Dre Greenlaw of the San Francisco 49ers suffered a freak accident on Sunday during the first half of the Super Bowl against Kansas City. He tore his Achilles tendon.
After bouncing up and down on the sidelines, Greenlaw slumped holding his left leg and began running onto the field with a few teammates. Then a trolley was used to help him off. The 49ers ultimately lost their overtime match, 25–22.
Later, Deebo Samuel hurt his hamstring with 9:10 left in the third quarter. However, the outstanding receiver for San Francisco was able to leave the game on his own and return to action right away.
This season, Greenlaw started all 15 of his games and was second on the team in tackles. In his five NFL seasons, he has played for San Francisco.
Prior to his injury, he was given credit for three assists in this game.
Only those two regular-season games were missed by Greenlaw, who had recently contended with Achilles tendon troubles; one of those games being the regular-season finale, which he missed for non-injury-related reasons.
Due to a groin injury, Greenlaw was only able to play in three games during the regular season in 2021, but he returned for the postseason. Since his debut, he has consistently started at first base.
