Hawks guard Dejounte Murray is one of the biggest names to watch before the NBA trade deadline in 2019; there should be no shortage of suitors for him.

According to “multiple teams consulted in Orlando” during the G League Showcase, NBA insider Marc Stein stated in his most recent Substack that the Hawks will “explore” a possible trade involving Murray.

However, it is anticipated that the 27-year-old won’t be the only Atlanta player available before the deadline; according to earlier reports from Stein, De’Andre Hunter and Clint Capela are “widely believed to be in play again this winter.”

This is in line with the general belief that the Hawks, under the leadership of Trae Young, lack the necessary supporting group to be a serious contender in the East.

With four years and $120 million remaining on his contract extension, Murray may be moving when Atlanta looks to retool its roster once more.

The Lakers may also be scheming to acquire the young guard, who would be a great complement to Jalen Brunson for the Knicks. However, they will face competition.

Shams Charania, a well-known NBA insider, stated on Wednesday morning that if the Lakers decide not to draft Bulls guard Zach LaVine, Murray is a “possible target.”

Hawks guard Dejounte Murray is “one player that I am told to keep an eye on, a potential target for the Lakers,” Charania stated on FanDuel TV.

LaVine is currently in year two of a $215 million ($A315 million) contract. Murray still has an extension with a value of $120 million ($176 million) that begins next season. That is a little better when you consider the reasonable salary that Murray can command, given the presence of LeBron James and Anthony Davis on your roster.

“The Hawks’ direction is obviously changing; a few summers ago, they traded for Dejounte Murray from the Spurs and forfeited multiple first-round picks in the process. However, if we examine the Lakers’ asset pool, they can trade one first-round pick right now or hold out until the draft, at which point they will have three first-round picks available for trade.

“Therefore, teams would want to include guys like Austin Reaves and Max Christie in any deal that the Lakers might want to pursue for a star player. It’s clear that the Lakers have no desire to trade for Austin Reaves. However, teams would look for players of that caliber.

Regarding the Knicks’ alleged interest in Murray, Ian Begley of SNY stated that the fact that he is represented by Rich Paul and Klutch Sports Group presents a “additional hurdle” to a possible trade.
