Rasheed Walker, the left tackle for the Packers, took time to “just chill, relax.” The 2022 seventh-round pick made an outstanding blindside tryout for Green Bay in his second season.
GREEN BAY – Rasheed Walker doesn’t know which game it was precisely, but prior to it, he woke up feeling content and at ease, and he didn’t want anything to interfere with that.
Walker remarked, “I changed my pregame routine,” following the Packers’ season’s conclusion. “I used to overdo everything. I used to overanalyze a lot, spend a lot of time studying before the game, and attempt to do a lot of pass sets.
“I just stopped doing (anything) at one point. Up to the game, I would simply sit in my locker and not listen to any music. Just unwind and have fun.”
As the 2023 season progressed, the second-year pro attributed his improved play at left tackle to his improved mental condition. Walker, who played in just one game and only four special teams snaps as a rookie in 2022, may be said to be the team’s most improved player this past season.
So much so that David Bakhtiari’s injury history and hefty salary cap hit for 2024 raise serious doubts about his availability, making the former Penn State seventh-round choice the Packers’ left tackle of the future.
Walker, a 6-6, 324-pound player, is not taking anything for granted, even though his play makes it easier for the Packers to let go of the five-time All-Pro should they decide to do so.
“It’s never enough,” he remarked. “You must always accomplish more. But I’ll do what I have to do as long as I’m on the field.”
That was his strategy throughout the whole 2023 season, when Walker was unsure of his actual position at any given moment.
