Despite the overwhelming disadvantage they will face, the Chiefs have insisted on sending away this well-known NFL guru because of….

February 17-An NFL Network report from Friday stated that the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs had selected the contract option of star defensive tackle Chris Jones and will retain the opportunity to place a franchise tag on him in the offseason.
According to the article, the Chiefs paid him $4.25 million that he had accrued in incentives on a one-year contract he signed last September following his holdout from training camp through the first week of the 2023 season.

According to Over The Cap, a defensive tackle’s predicted franchise tag for 2024 is $19,753,000, which is based on the top five salaries at the position. In the event that Kansas City does not use the tag or come to a deal with Jones, he would become a free agency in March.
Jones, 29, was selected to the Pro Bowl five times and was a first-team All-Pro in 2022 and 2023. In 16 games (all starts), he led the Chiefs with 29 quarterback hits, 13 tackles for loss, and a tie for the team lead in sacks (10.5).

Jones was a star for the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, as they defeated San Francisco in overtime. Jones had six quarterback pressures, one of which came on a third-and-four play that forced the 49ers to settle for a field goal.
After being taken by Kansas City in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State, Jones has spent his entire eight-year playing career there. Including 30 this past season, he has 273 tackles and 75.5 sacks in his career.
After 11 seasons in Kansas City, special teams coach Dave Toub’s contract was extended, the Chiefs announced on Friday.
Toub, 61, who was a part of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid’s first coaching staff, took on the role as assistant head coach in 2018.
