Brady Poppinga, the former linebacker for the Green Bay Packers, made his first public remarks on Thursday since it became known that his 17-year-old son Julius had passed away earlier this week following what was purported to be a severe asthma attack.

The former NFL player posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying, “I would like to thank EVERYONE for their unbelievably beautiful, sweet, and loving compassion sent our way.”
According to reports, Brady Poppinga’s son, the Super Bowl champion, passed away following a severe asthma attack.
“Julius has impacted countless lives and is a unique soul. Although we miss him, we KNOW that we will see and be with him again because of the Savior.”
In addition to being hospitalized for an asthma attack, Julius also had a collapsed lung, from which he never fully recovered, according to the Ventura County Star.

Online, a number of former NFL players, including Will Blackmon, a teammate who played for the Packers from 2006 to 2009, expressed their condolences.

Julius’s life has always revolved heavily around football. Jasmine, Julius’ sister, wrote on Instagram on Friday, “I know right now Julius is grinning from heaven in happiness to watch his brothers plate their hearts out tonight against TO.”
“Thank you to the Westlake football team for providing Julius, my parents, my younger sisters, and I with a second family. For the sake of Julius Poppinga, Westlake High School, and yourself, please give it your all tonight.”
