Unfortunately, the head coach of the Packers officially decided to terminate his contract due to…

The Green Bay Packers’ season is off to a 2–5 start, and they are having trouble. At the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, the team is probably going to be sellers.

Jordan Love has not performed well at center, and the team has now lost four straight games. Just 57.5% of Love’s passes for 1,263 yards, 10 touchdowns, and seven interceptions have been completed so far this season.

With $60.3 million in dead salary cap money and having moved on from Aaron Rodgers, the Packers are essentially rebuilding this year. Given that it doesn’t seem like things will get better for the Packers anytime soon, who might they trade away before the deadline on October 31?

Deadline Moves: Green Bay Packers Trade Preston Smith, Veteran EDGE Preston Smith might make sense for the team in their rebuilding efforts.

Thus far this season, the 30-year-old has recorded two sacks, five quarterback hits, 13 total pressures, and 15 defensive stops.

Smith’s cap number increases from $6.4 million this year to $16.5 million in 2024. He also owes a $5.4 million roster bonus the following year. By moving Smith, the Packers would save $2.5 million in total the following year, remove $1 million from the salary cap in 2023, and add $14 million in dead money to the cap in 2024.

The Packers would keep depth at the position with their younger players, while the seasoned pass rusher could have an instant impact on a team that needs it.

It would make sense for the team to consider adding more draft picks to fill the voids, especially considering the current season’s state.

Trade AJ Dillon This season, Dillon has had difficulty with Green Bay. With 85 carries, the running back has gained 266 yards in total, averaging 3.1 yards per carry.

In 2023, Dillon will receive a base salary of approximately $1.33 million, as per his contract. Dillon is expected to be a free agent after this season, and since Aaron Jones is performing well at running back for the Packers, it’s possible that they won’t have any more plans for him.

In the event that Dillon is dealt at the deadline, the Packers would have $739,000 in cap room available. If a team is willing to forfeit a pick, it is definitely worth looking into.

Think About Shifting Other Participants
It’s possible that the team will think about cutting loose players like guard Jon Runyan Jr., cornerback Rasul Douglas, and offensive tackle Yosh Nijman.

It might be worthwhile to try and get something for Nijman before he enters free agency. Although he does not start for the team, he might be useful to a group that needs more depth. It would be worthwhile if the Packers could obtain anything in exchange for him.

Douglas, who has one more year left on his deal after this one, has been a vital member of the Packers defense. There have been rumors linking him to the Cowboys, since Dallas needs secondary support following Trevon Diggs’ season-ending injury.

Douglas has made 27 total tackles so far this season, along with one interception, one fumble recovery, and six pass deflections.
