Unfortunately, the head coach of the Devils officially decided to terminate his contract due to…

The New Jersey Devils’ poor goaltending and defense are largely to blame for their recent struggles, which have been lopsided.

Still, before the Devils broke for the Christmas season, there was a collective sigh of relief. On Saturday, New Jersey defeated the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 to secure two vital points.

The Devils are vying for the coveted wild card spot in the East, where they are three points behind teams like the Tampa Bay Lightning and Carolina Hurricanes.

For the Devils, the past few months have not been easy. Key players on their roster have sustained injuries, and defenseman Dougie Hamilton’s season is probably coming to an end.

The Devils’ defense has been a bigger headache than their goaltending, even though the rest of the Metro Division is playing well. They really require improvements to their defense.

Hockey insider Larry Brooks of the New York Post says that it will be interesting to see if the Devils attempt to recruit the Hurricanes. If the Devils will hold talks with Hurricanes defenseman Brady Skjei, that was a conjecture made by Brooks.

Skjei’s $31,500,000-million contract, which he signed with the New York Rangers in 2018, is coming to an end. Following the 2023–24 season, he will become a UFA. With a plus/minus of +3, the 29-year-old has accrued 21 points this season through six goals and 15 assists in 34 games.

The Devils are 6-3-1 in their last ten games and are coming off a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings in their previous encounter. With 36 points (17-13-2) from 34 games, they are ranked 17th overall in the league and sixth in the Metro Division.

The team’s leading scorers, Jack Hughes (39 points) and Jasper Bratt, are followed by Tyler Toffoli (24 points). On Wednesday, December 27, the Devils will play the Columbus Blue Jackets once again on the ice.
