Unfortunately, the head coach of Denver officially decided to terminate his contract due to…
Following their loss to the New York Jets on Sunday, the Denver Broncos’ dismal 2023 season continued, and it appears that there may be repercussions shortly.
Some Broncos players think there’s a chance big roster changes are on the horizon, according to James Palmer of NFL Network.
“Being there yesterday, the sense that I get from players in that locker room is that a potential teardown is coming,” Palmer stated. “That’s just the way some of these players feel.”
Denver is on the verge of yet another losing season after dropping to 1-4, which is definitely not what the team anticipated when Sean Payton was appointed head coach this offseason. Palmer mentioned that changes to the roster might occur “before the trade deadline” and mentioned that other players were concerned about the trade of veteran defensive end Randy Gregory on Friday.
“That move… that’s what really shook up this group. If you ask my opinion, talking to players, it was ‘OK, now Sean Payton’s going to come in and start doing things his way, in a sense,'” Palmer stated.
The Broncos led the Jets by five points at halftime but ultimately lost 31–21. Denver had a terrible time moving the ball; in the second half, its five possessions totaled 18 yards. On New York’s opening possession of the third quarter, the team’s defense gave up a 72-yard touchdown run to running back Breece Hall of the Jets, showing how little better it was.
A team that finished 5-12 the previous year was led by Payton. It seemed like a great match to pair him with seasoned quarterback Russell Wilson at first, but once the 2023 season got underway, things fell apart. The Broncos’ offense has struggled to be consistent, and their defense is the worst in the NFL, giving up 450.6 yards per game on average to opponents.
When Denver plays the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football, it will attempt to reverse its bad luck.
