Good news: An officer of the Baltimore Police Department shoots those attempting to steal items from the stadium.
After a guy was wounded on Friday night at a liquor store in West Baltimore, a Baltimore Police officer opened fire on two people who were escaping.
During a late-night news conference on Friday, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley stated that two officers working together in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood heard gunshots shortly before 9 p.m. On the intersection of North Carey and Laurens streets, they observed two people leaving the 57 Liquor Store. According to Worley, a cop fired “several rounds” at them.
Worley stated, “At this moment, we don’t have any evidence that the officer struck the suspect.” One man, 39, was apprehended by police after he fled in a car, while the other fled on foot. Foxtrot, the police department’s chopper, took part in the chase.
According to Worley, it’s still unclear if the two individuals fired at the police first, but based on what was said in a body-worn camera video, officers assumed they had.
A 31-year-old male who had been shot in the leg was discovered inside the business by other responding officers. His injuries, according to the police, are not life-threatening, and a hospital is treating him. The victim of the shooting, according to the police, was a liquor shop consumer rather than an employee, and it was not a part of a heist.
According to Worley, two weapons were also found by the officers at the scene.
The booze shop, with its bright yellow awning, was surrounded by police barricades that extended a few blocks in either direction and blocked the intersection. At midnight, the crime scene was still in use as investigators went about their business. At least one police officer fired rounds during the event, prompting an investigation by the department’s Special Investigations Response team.
Worley praised the work of his officers, saying, “They heard the discharging, went towards the area, and probably saved the life of a victim who had been shot at least once.”
