The Italian team declared on August 31 that the Rossoneri had been finalized for a 1.2 billion euro purchase by the RedBird Capital fund. Yankee Global Enterprises, the team that owns the New York Yankees, was a minority shareholder in that agreement.
From that point on, Milan and the New York Yankees established a business partnership with the goal of advancing and globalizing their individual brands by capitalizing on the success of both teams in Europe and the US.
The relationship between the two sports teams has now advanced, as President Levine—a major contributor to the Yankees’ success since 2000—joined the board of directors of the reigning Italian champions as an advisor.
The Italian team released a statement saying, “The AC Milan board of directors approved the appointment of Randy Levine, president of the New York Yankees, as a new board member.”
“Levine, who has led the Yankees for more than 20 years, is regarded as one of the most accomplished businessmen in the sports and entertainment sectors on a global scale.
“Levine has helped the New York Yankees maintain their success in terms of on-field performance, business partnerships, and international opportunities to grow and strengthen the New York Yankees brand while leading one of the most recognizable sports teams in the world.
“He was also instrumental in the development of the new Yankee Stadium, completed in 2009, and revolutionized the delivery of sports content through the creation of the YES Network.”
The Italian president of Milan, Paolo Scaroni, welcomed the American to AC Milan in a separate statement.
