Fitzgerald remarked, “As a group, we’re incredibly fortunate to have Lindy Ruff behind the bench to guide this group, who’ve made significant strides under his leadership.” “I’ve always thought Lindy is and has been the best player to come off the bench for this team. He has led our young team brilliantly from the start, and as we move forward, we’re thrilled to see this team’s continued success under his direction.
After New Jersey lost its opening two games at home and supporters chanted for Ruff to be fired, the Devils’ 112 point campaign in the previous season occurred. The supporters yelled “Sorry Lindy” late in one game, and the team soon began a 13-game winning streak.
Ruff chuckled and promised to go out and enjoy a few beers with the fans eventually.
For the first time since 2018, New Jersey qualified for the postseason. They defeated the New York Rangers in the opening round before falling to the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round.
Ruff stated, “I couldn’t be prouder of the tremendous progress that our group made last season and I’m thrilled to commit here to this situation.” “Our Devils’ fan base is among the best in the League, and they deserve to see a winner. We have a special group in Jersey, and there’s an opportunity to accomplish long-term success, make a lot of positive memories, and give our fans a lot to cheer about.”
