After Pro Bowl center Brad Holmes revealed last week that he was thinking about his future, Lions general manager Brad Holmes indicated on Monday that he wouldn’t pressure Brad into making a decision about playing in 2024.

“I’m just respectful of his time and his thoughts because I have so much respect for him and everything that he goes through and fights through,” Holmes stated on Monday at his season-ending news conference. “We’re not going to pressure him to do anything or make any moves, but the communication will be diligent, it’ll be thorough, it’ll be respectful.”

Although Brad never considered retiring, his enigmatic remarks during the locker cleanup following the Lions’ NFC title game loss to the San Francisco 49ers had many wondering how many years he had left.

After three seasons of battling recurrent toe issues, Brad—the Lions’ first-round selection in 2018—played through toe, ankle, knee, and back pain this season. He played through a sprained knee in the playoffs and missed one practice day a week on average during the regular season, but he missed two games this season due to injuries.

“It wears you out,” Brad stated the previous week. “It really takes a toll on you, so I need to find a way to get back to Frank, and I don’t regret any of this at all, but it weighs on you, and I’m just going to take some time and really figure everything out to make sure that I’m feeling good, not only for me as the football player but for me to be the best husband and best father and everything with that as well.”
