Next weekend’s Super Bowl LVIII between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will mark the start of the team’s last NFL preparations. After having a week off, Andy Reid’s team has spent the previous three days preparing for the upcoming game. Later today, they will take a flight to Las Vegas, where they will continue to train toward the big show the following weekend.Oh

The Chiefs gave an update on their injured players on Wednesday and an estimation update on Friday. Two players did not participate at all in Friday’s practice – left guard Joe Thuney is still struggling with a pectoral injury and defensive lineman Charles Omenihu, is definitely out with a knee injury. Defensive tackle Chris Jones (quadriceps), wide receiver Skyy Moore (knee) and running back Isiah Pacheco, who has had issues with an ankle and toe injury for the past week or so, all had limited participation in the last two sessions.

What type of wound is Charles Omenihu getting better from?
Charles Omenihu suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee during last week’s AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens, according to an MRI exam. Omenihu was forced to leave the field in the first half of the game on Sunday at M & T Bank Stadium despite recording a sack and forced fumble. After surgery to repair the damaged ligament, he will start the arduous process of recovering. Given that such injuries often need nine months of recovery, Omenihu could, at best, be able to make a comeback in September or October. But sometimes, particularly for older players, the recuperation period is lengthier, thus the 26-year-old might miss 11 to 12 months.

This is all to say that he will definitely miss the Super Bowl and a chance to face his old team. Omenihu joined the 49ers from the Houston Texans for a 2023 sixth-round pick in November 2021. In March last year, he signed a two-year deal worth $16 million ($8.6 million guaranteed) as a free agent with the Chiefs. After a difficult start, he soon established himself as vital member of the Chiefs’ defensive line. As linebacker Nick Bolton noted: “It’s huge. We missed him earlier in the season [six games through suspension]. He came back and was able to produce for us. He’s one of those guys that you hate to see him go down. He’s worked hard for this moment and got a chance to play against his old team at that venue and that stage, so you feel for him for sure.”

Andy Reid is having trouble with Omenihu’s injury because Derrick Nnadi is on injured reserve due to a triceps issue. Omenhi ended the regular season with seven sacks and two forced fumbles coupled with the key strip-sack against

the Ravens before hurting his knee. According to defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Felix Anudike-Uzomah, a rookie who is 22 years old, “will probably have to step in there.” Other, more seasoned choices are Malik Herring and Mike Danna.
