Good News, The Warriors’ new general manager was introduced in 2024 as a former NBA player.

Good news! The Warriors’ new general manager was introduced in 2024 as a former NBA player.

On Monday, Andre Iguodala was finally presented as the new general manager of the Warriors. Having joined the Warriors’ front office in 2018, Andre has worked under Bob Myers as Vice President of Basketball Operations for the last two seasons. Myers just announced his official resignation as General Manager/President of Basketball Operations, taking effect on June 30. During his 15-year NBA playing career, Dunleavy spent 4.5 of those years with the Warriors (2002–2007). Dunleavy was a shooter, averaging over 40 percent from three in four seasons, much like some current Warriors players.

“We believe Mike is the ideal candidate to head our basketball operations division,” stated Joe Lacob, co-executive chairman and CEO of the Warriors. “His upbringing as a family (his father was an NBA player, coach, and general manager), his 15-year NBA playing career, and his five seasons working in our front office under Bob Myers have all contributed to his abundance of basketball knowledge.

Young and vivacious, he’s built a lot of relationships throughout the league and has good communication skills with both coaches and players—all valuable qualities in this industry. Mike is up to the task and the responsibility.

Thanking Lacob and Co-Executive Chairman Peter Guber for the chance, Dunleavy began his news conference by expressing his pleasure at becoming the head of such a distinguished company.

Dunleavy declared, “This is among the best organizations in all of sports.” “It means a great deal to me to be able to continue leading our organization. Although we have a lot of work ahead of us, I believe the future is bright.”

Additionally, Dunleavy expressed his gratitude to Bob Myers, his predecessor.

“Bob has served as my agent, my employer, a wonderful mentor, and above all, a wonderful friend. Here, he will be missed by all of us. Large shoes to fill. We work really well together as a group. It’s quite feasible,” Dunleavy remarked.

Head Coach Steve Kerr is one of the individuals Dunleavy intends to rely on in this new position.

“Having someone like Steve to mentor and support me on this journey is incredibly exciting, as he has also been a general manager. Dunleavy stated, “He sees and understands both sides of it.”

REMOVING THE CENTER
In terms of basketball, Dunleavy spoke of a club that had already developed a culture around championships, had fallen short of expectations the previous year, but was still regarded as one of the top teams in the league overall.

“We were the league’s top team and the champions in the 2021–2022 campaign. We felt internally let down by the previous year. We were two games away from making it to the conference finals at the same time, Dunleavy stated.

Dunleavy thinks the team can advance by fostering internal growth and connectivity, even though he still likes the main players on the squad.

“I believe Steph Curry and his core group of guys are playing at a very high level. We believe we have an opportunity to constantly knock on doors because of this,” Dunleavy stated. “We’ll attempt to address that throughout the off-season. The remaining players on the roster are a bunch that could use some improvement in their ability to play together and connect. That occurs both internally through collaboration and externally.
