NORMAN — Oklahoma continued to participate in the winter transfer portal until the end of January, despite it having ended a month earlier.

That was made possible by the cascading effects that Nick Saban’s abrupt retirement from Alabama had on college football.

The man regarded by many as the greatest college football coach of all time was replaced by Kalen DeBoer, whom the Tide appointed without any delay.

Following those coaching changes, players from Arizona, San Jose State, Buffalo, and South Alabama were allowed to access the site for a fresh 30-day period without facing any consequences. This gave Brent Venables and his team additional chances to strengthen Oklahoma’s roster prior to the summer.

The Sooners inked every player in their 2024 recruiting class back in December, thus they did not add any more players during the February signing day.

However, the school did add one player almost a week prior to that, Washington offensive line transfer Geirean Hatchett.

After sitting out the pandemic-affected 2020 season and redshirting in 2021, the 6-foot-4, 303-pound interior lineman has four years of experience under his belt.

However, he still has two years of eligibility left at Oklahoma, where he committed on January 29 and joined the Sooners this offseason as the latest addition to their trench rebuild.

Hatchett, who arrived late to college in the spring, is presently registered for classes and can be found in the student directory of Oklahoma.

According to the 247Sports team transfer rankings, the Sooners brought in a transfer class that is ranked 29th in the country, and he is one of 13 new transfers that came to Norman this spring.

In the meantime, 17 players from Oklahoma left the squad before the regular season ended, and one more left before the season began.
