The intriguing coach that the Bills have officially signed is a great replacement for the outgoing coach who was fired.

For the 2024 NFL season, Joe Brady will be the official offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills after the team waived the interim tag. But that meant Brady’s position as the team’s quarterbacks coach was no longer available.

The Bills declared on Wednesday, February 7, that they have brought on Ronald Curry to play in that capacity. Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Bills, and Curry, who played for the New Orleans Saints for the previous eight years, will now collaborate closely.

Curry was dubbed “a fascinating hire” for Buffalo by Thad Brown of WROC-TV. Curry adds a wealth of knowledge from his tenure as a coach and player.

Curry broke the passing yardage record while playing as a star quarterback for the University of North Carolina. Curry switched to wide receiver after the Raiders selected him in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL draft. In his seven Raiders seasons, he caught 193 passes for 2,347 yards and 13 touchdowns.

In 2014, the 44-year-old began his NFL coaching career as an offensive assistant with the San Francisco 49ers. He ascended the ranks gradually after landing the same role in New Orleans. Curry spent three seasons coaching the Saints’ wide receivers before taking on the roles of passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2021 and 2023.

Curry offers “a solid background in both ends of [the] pass game,” according to Brown, with that kind of résumé. He is “well regarded around the league” and “liked by players.”

Curry is not an inside hire, but he is acquainted with Brady. In 2017 and 2018, Brady served as an offensive assistant under Sean Payton, the head coach of the Saints, and the two collaborated.
