Another sorrowful news hit the Bears as Matt Eberflus has regreatfully announced the death of his powerful QB.

Michael Hicks, a former Chicago Bears running back, passed away.

51 was his age.

South Carolina State University, where Hicks excelled during his collegiate career, announced on its website that he passed away on Friday at the Thomaston (Ga.) Medical Center.

The Bears selected Hicks in the seventh round of the 1996 draft, 253rd overall.

He participated in seven games during his two seasons as a player. In addition to catching one pass for one yard, he carried the ball 31 times for 106 yards.

He only played for three seasons, but he still ranks second behind Will Ford in the school’s all-time rushing record. With 22, he still holds the Bulldogs single-season touchdown scoring record. He ran for 4,093 yards. With 51 rushing touchdowns, he leads the school in career touchdowns.

He was the MEAC Offensive Player of the Year in 1995 and was selected to the All-MEAC team three times.

FURTHER MORE;

The Chicago Bears have a big decision to make this offseason.

The team has the first overall pick in the draft once more. Once more, they must choose between selecting quarterback Justin Fields and selecting a quarterback with the first pick in the draft. Naturally, the Bears and the Carolina Panthers made a significant trade last season that resulted in the wide receiver D.J. Moore and a haul in the draft.

But the stakes are higher this year. Caleb Williams, a quarterback for USC who is an even better prospect than Bryce Young was a year ago, is expected to be the first pick.

One specific Bears fan with some professional sports knowledge would say the Bears should hold onto Fields for another season.

During his appearance on NFL Network’s Super Bowl Live on Wednesday afternoon, WWE Champion and well-known Bears fan Seth Rollins gave a fairly strong endorsement to the current Bears quarterback.

Team Justin Fields is led by Seth Rollins.
“Justin Fields is my love. Rollins said, “I want to keep him,” to Brian Baldinger.

Rollins continued by saying that Fields and the Bears both made progress the previous season and that they ought to maintain that pace.

“He has the arm, and you can see and feel it. He’s capable of making every throw, said Rollins. “I feel good about it; you give him some time and another weapon in there. Regarding where the offense will be next season, I’m extremely optimistic.”

Therefore, Rollins believes it’s an easy decision for the Bears to trade the first overall pick if they decide to keep Fields.

“In my opinion, it’s obvious. Trade down and reclaim the house if you can,” he advised.

Recent reports indicate that the Bears could receive three first-round picks in a package if they traded the first overall pick. Should Fields not pan out, the Bears would have another chance in the upcoming years to select a franchise quarterback if they are able to acquire three first-round picks in exchange.

For now, though, Rollins believes Fields is “the guy.”
