Lack Deal: “I’m not going to retire!” a defender Ream extends his contract with warriors
The Athletic’s Shams Charania revealed that G-League center Jayce Johnson will be joining the Golden State Warriors on a training camp Exhibit 10 contract. Johnson is the best rebounder in the G-League and is 7’0″ tall, as Charania mentioned.
Exhibit 10: Players rarely make NBA rosters out of camp, but the Warriors have two roster spots and two-way slots available; if Johnson impresses in this chance, they may use one of these on him. Given that James Wiseman hasn’t played well and Golden State has been thin on the roster the past few seasons, it makes sense that they would be interested in Johnson.
Johnson should take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to be surrounded by some of the most seasoned players and coaches in the league, even if he is not selected for one of Golden State’s available roster spots. The young big man should greatly benefit from training under Steve Kerr and learning alongside players like Draymond Green and Steph Curry.
Having participated in 32 games for the Warriors’ G-League affiliate the previous season, Johnson is no stranger to the organization. Johnson averaged 9.4 points and 13.5 rebounds while playing for the Santa Cruz Warriors a season ago. He also blocked more than one shot per game. Johnson’s skill set is obviously intriguing to the Warriors, and they plan to check him out during training camp.
