The Lakers completely revamped their roster by trading Russell Westbrook and bringing in D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Rui Hachimura.

Through the play-in tournament, Los Angeles sneaked into the playoffs and advanced to the Western Conference Finals. The eventual champion Denver Nuggets defeated Los Angeles despite the fact that James averaged 27.8 PPG, 9.5 RPG, and 10.0 APG, and Davis added 26.8 PPG and 14.0 RPG.
