DON Deal, a vital player, signs for a Two-Year Contract Extension with the Flyers
According to General Manager Daniel Briere, the Philadelphia Flyers today announced that they have signed forward Ryan Poehling to a two-year, $3.8 million contract extension ($1.9 million AAV), effective with the 2024–25 campaign.
Poehling, 25, (1/3/99), has played 45 games in his first season with the Flyers and has 14 points (5-9=14). The 6-foot-2, 204-pound native of Lakeville, Minnesota, is T-4th on the team in shorthanded points (2) and leads the
team’s forwards in blocked shots (45). On November 19 against CBJ, he tied his career-high three-point performance (1-2=3), which included the game-winning basket. On December 19 at NJD, the left-handed forward scored multiple goals for the fifth time in his career. On July 1, 2023, he signed with Philadelphia as a free agent.
Poehling has played in 183 NHL games over the course of five seasons with Montreal, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia. He has 50 points (25-25=50), which includes three shorthanded goals, five game-winning goals, and 24 penalty minutes (2018-24). In the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft, the Montreal Canadiens originally selected him with
the 25th overall pick. On April 6, 2019, he made his NHL debut against Toronto. He became the first player to score three goals in his first NHL game since Alex Smart on January 14, 1943, when he scored his first career hat trick in his NHL debut.
Poehling has competed internationally for the United States, winning gold in the 2017 World Junior U18 Championship, bronze in the 2018 World Junior U20 Championship, and silver in the 2019 World Junior U20 Championship. At the 2019 World Junior Championship, he won three awards: Best Forward, Most Valuable Player, and All-Star Team Selection.
