Shane Steichen, the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, just resigned today for the following:.
Following the team’s third straight loss and yet another poor offensive showing, the Indianapolis Colts have fired coach Frank Reich. The Colts’ 13-year-old player, Jeff Saturday, an ESPN analyst, has been named interim head coach.
The Colts made the announcement on Monday, the day after their embarrassing 26-3 loss to New England, in which they went 0 for 14 on third down and managed just 121 yards of offense. Indianapolis (3-5-1) has the lowest scoring offense in the league.

After Sunday’s defeat, he declared, “Offensive performance; that’s why I was brought here.” It is my duty to do that. Therefore, the players are here. The players we have are more than capable. I need to perform better. I’ll start by taking offense. I have to do a better job of getting the guys ready for the game, positioning the guys for success, and having solutions ready for when issues arise.
After working as offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, who won the Super Bowl, Reich was hired in 2018. In two of his first four seasons, he guided the Colts to the postseason, and the previous season, he came dangerously close. Yet, Indianapolis dropped their final two games and missed the playoffs.
In the last three weeks, Indy has made three significant moves. Reich announced two weeks ago that Matt Ryan, the 2016 MVP of the NFL, would be benched. Despite Reich being the playcaller, he fired offensive coordinator Marcus Brady last week. Just before the deadline for trades, general manager Chris Ballard also made a trade last Tuesday involving running back Nyheim Hines.
Another issue Reich faced was a changing group of quarterbacks. Firstly, in 2019, franchise quarterback Andrew Luck announced his retirement. After excelling under Reich in Philadelphia, Carson Wentz was brought in for the previous season, but he had a terrible season. Ryan didn’t perform much better and was benched last month in favor of Sam Ehlinger.
