Andy Reid has revealed his next high-profile addition, spending more than £700 million.

It’s official—the Kansas City Chiefs have gotten a jump start on assembling their NFL offseason roster for 2024.

Four players have signed reserve/future contracts with the Chiefs, per the NFL personnel notice for Wednesday. Some of these movements were anticipated ever since the team hosted ten players for exercises the previous week. That set of tryout participants included all four of the players signed to reserve/future deals.

The new league year doesn’t start until March, therefore players who sign reserve/future deals won’t be formally added to the squad until then. Those who sign these kinds of deals are frequently searching for a chance after not fitting in with a team as undrafted free agents or draft picks.

Here are the latest additions to the Chiefs’ roster:

QB Ian Book
“Book has started one NFL game in his career. He was previously selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame. In that game, he completed 12 of his 20 passes for 135 yards and two interceptions. The Philadelphia Eagles grabbed him after he was waived during the 2022 roster reductions. Before being waived once more, he played with the Eagles during the 2022 and 2023 NFL seasons. The most recent stint he has was with the New England Patriots’ practice squad.”

Jacob Copeland, wide receiver
“Copeland, a Maryland wide receiver, was selected by the Tennessee Titans in 2023 despite not being selected in the draft. For the Terrapins in 2022, the 5-foot-11, 201-pound wide receiver gained 422 yards and three touchdowns. At the combine, he ran a 4.42 40-yard dash. Early in the 2023 NFL season, he played for one month with the Minnesota Vikings before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad.”

 RB Hassan Hall
“Hall, an undrafted free agent from the 2023 NFL draft class, attended Georgia Tech and Louisville for his undergraduate career. After the draft, he signed a contract with the Cleveland Browns, however he was released from the 53-man roster. In Week 3 of the preseason, he got four touches for 17 yards against the Chiefs. After being re-signed, he worked out for the team before being cut loose in late September. Since then, he has been practicing with the New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals.”

DE Jordan Smith
“Smith, a UAB product selected in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, didn’t play in the NFL until Week 16 of his rookie season. He appeared to be a key player for the Jags in the future, but during OTAs leading up to the 2022 NFL season, he sustained a significant knee injury that forced the team to place him on injured reserve. Smith is trying to get his NFL career off to a quick start after missing the whole 2022 and 2023 season due to injury. He spent one season as a player with Butler (KS).

The Chiefs now have 40 players under contract for the 2024 NFL season after adding these four players. For the forthcoming offseason, they still have a lot of work to do in order to assemble a complete 90-man roster.
