After a difficult season that saw the team eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, the Philadelphia Eagles moved quickly to reorganize their coaching staff. High-profile offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will take over for Brian Johnson, according to a story published on Saturday by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Moore was a member of the Dallas Cowboys (2019–2022) and Los Angeles Chargers (2023) before. Despite not being selected, he played three NFL games for the Cowboys and was a successful quarterback for Boise State throughout his college career.

Moore’s Cowboy attack led the NFL in 2021 in both points scored (30.4) and yards gained (401.4), and it scored more than 50 points twice in the season. Dallas scored 26.8 points per game in 2022, good for fourth place in the league.

When Moore was coaching the Chargers the previous season, the team’s average points per game was merely 20.4, a substantial decline in his numbers. But a late-season injury to starting quarterback Justin Herbert played a significant role in that.

For an Eagles offense that fell short of expectations following a successful 2022 campaign, Kellen Moore is an intriguing addition. Nick Sirianni’s club had won 10 of its first 11 games during the regular season, but they concluded with an 11-6 record and were ousted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round. The group scored just 16.7 points per game on average in their last three games and only 19.5 points per game on the road.

With 2022 Pro Bowl quarterback Jalen Hurts, elite receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, and fifth-year running back D’Andre Swift on the roster, Moore will inherit a loaded team.

Vic Fangio, the new defensive coordinator for the Eagles, takes over for Sean Desai as part of the coaching staff makeover.
