Police in Maywood, Wisconsin, are looking for a former NFL player whose mother was discovered dead next to a creek behind her house.
According to the Maywood Police Department, family members informed authorities on Saturday that they were unable to find Myrtle Brown, 73, or her son Sergio Brown, 35. Police searched for both people while filing a missing person report.
Sergio Brown went to the University of Notre Dame and Proviso East High School in Maywood.
Police claimed that after conducting a second, more thorough search, they found Myrtle Brown unconscious by a creek behind her house. Her death was declared a homicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Officer on Sunday afternoon, citing various injuries sustained during an assault.
According to the police, Sergio Brown is still being sought after. According to ESPN, he was a safety in the NFL for seven seasons, with the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills, between 2010 and 2017.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Nick Brown, the brother of Sergio Brown and the son of Myrtle Brown, recalled his mother as a “strong, caring, diligent, fancy, funny” woman.
“Our recent conversation about tough times being temporary is my beacon of hope,” he wrote. “Mom always told me, ‘tough times don’t last.”
He requested that anyone with knowledge about his brother’s location contact the police.
Nick Brown wrote, “Please come home and know that I love you.”
Investigators encouraged anyone with information on his whereabouts to call 708-450-1787 for the anonymous tip line run by the Maywood Police Department, or 708-368-4131 for Maywood Police Investigations.
