Another important player for the 49ers has announced his retirement due to this heartbreaking…

The San Francisco 49ers‘ offensive lineman Anthony Davis announced his retirement on Friday, though he did not rule out a comeback.

Given that Davis is only 25 years old and could have made millions of dollars, his retirement is startling. The decision is also the most recent setback for the NFL as more players are choosing not to play because of the risks.

According to Spotrac.com, Davis has already made $28 million in his five years in the NFL. Prior to the 2013 season, he inked a $33.2 million, five-year contract with the 49ers. Of that amount, $23 million remained on the deal, which included $2.3 million in salary and bonuses for the 2015 campaign.

When Davis announced his retirement, he gave the excuse that he wanted to give his body and mind time to heal, but he also left open the chance that he might play again in the future.
“I’ve concluded that it would be best for me to take a year or so off from the NFL after giving it some thought. I’m going to give my body and brain a chance to heal during this time. It’s okay, I know a lot of people won’t understand my choice. I wish you the bravery to live your life as you imagined it as a child, daydreaming to yourself. Your life is a dream, and you are in charge of making it come true. I’m just doing what, at this point in my life, is best for both my physical and mental health.”
Later, Davis reaffirmed on Twitter that he does intend to return “in a year or so.”
After being selected eleventh overall in the 2010 draft, Davis began every game in his first four seasons. But in 2014, he missed nine games due to multiple leg injuries and a concussion.

Since the 2014 season ended, two of Davis’s former teammates, Patrick Willis (foot injuries) and Chris Borland (who declared football wasn’t worth the risks), have become the fifth NFL player, age 30 or younger, to retire.
