While playing, the Detroit Red Wings just broke some terrible news.

DETROIT (AP) — In a game marred by a hit from behind that rendered Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin unconscious on the ice, the Ottawa Senators defeated Detroit 5-1 on Saturday night. Claude Giroux and Vladimir Tarasenko each had a goal and an assist.

After Ottawa’s Mathieu Joseph cross-checked Larkin in the back of the head and neck, he was unconscious for approximately a minute. Finally, Larkin regained consciousness and was able to stand. He was helped to the changing area, stooped over.

During the game, the team issued a statement stating that Larkin was being assessed by the medical personnel. After the game, coach Derek Lalonde had nothing more to report.

Lalonde expressed his concern with great clarity. “Observing him unconscious and passed out on the ice is a really tough look.”

During a power play in the first period, Larkin was standing close to the Ottawa goal when he was hit by Joseph. He fell into Senator Parker Kelly, who then struck him as well.

With 6:10 remaining in the half, roughing penalties were called against Joseph and Kelly. After cross-checking Artem Zub while the Ottawa defenseman was standing next to the unconscious Larkin, David Perron of Detroit was given a match penalty for intent to injure.

Red Wings defenseman Ben Chiarot stated, “When you see someone unconscious, it’s scary for everyone in the rink.” “Hard to watch, particularly if the person is your captain and friend.” It’s frightening for his family to witness someone so depressed. Many feelings.

Early in the third period, Christian Fischer and Joseph from Detroit traded blows.

A minute after Larkin’s injury, during a 4-on-3 power play, Kane scored on a wrister from the right circle that beat Korpisalo with his glove side.

At the end of the second, Ottawa led 4-1. At 3:36, Tarasenko used a power play to score the game-winning goal. Then, Kubalik, a Red Wings player from the previous campaign, defeated Lyon with a slap shot. With 1:04 remaining in the half, Stutzle scored.

Coach D.J. Smith of the Senators stated, “I thought we played our best second period in a long time against one of the better second-period teams in the league.”
