Forward Jesper Bratt, a restricted free agent, and the New Jersey Devils agreed to an eight-year, $63 million contract extension on Thursday.
The agreement, which is good through the 2030–31 season, is worth $7.875 million on average every year.
In 2022–23, Bratt, 24, played in all 82 games and equaled his career high of 73 points (32 goals, 41 assists).
General manager Tom Fitzgerald stated, “It was always a priority to keep Jesper Bratt here long term and both parties are thrilled that a deal was completed.” “I appreciate and applaud Jesper’s dedication to this organization. He is, in our opinion, a unique player and an important part of our core group of talent who will help the team achieve its long-term objectives, including winning the Stanley Cup for New Jersey.”
The Swedish winger, a sixth-round selection by New Jersey in 2016, has amassed 276 points in 389 games (102 goals, 174 assists) since making his NHL debut in 2017. In his six postseason games played, he has one goal and five assists.
On March 19, he defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning and scored his 100th goal in career as part of his first career hat trick.
Bratt is the first player to score at least 70 points in a season since Zach Parise in 2008–2010, making him the tenth player in Devils history to do so.
Bratt will receive $10 million in 2023–2024; $9 million in 2024–25 and 2025–26; $8 million in 2026–27; $7.2 million in 2027–28 and 2028–29; $6.6 million in 2029–30; and $6 million in 2030–31 as per the terms of the contract.
