The Buffalo Bills have suffered a tremendous setback, as Sean McDermott has regretfully declared that…..
On Pittsburgh’s opening drive of the second half in the third quarter of Buffalo‘s Super Wild Card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, linebacker Terrel Bernard of the Bills left the game.
Bernard suffered an ankle injury after a tackle and had to be carried off the field. He was brought back for X-rays and will not be playing for the rest of the match.
Before Bernard departed the field, a few teammates came to the cart to wish him farewell.
With 143 stops, three interceptions, and three fumble recoveries, the rookie starter’s stats are impressive. As the middle linebacker, Bernard has served as the defense’s spokesperson.
Prior to the injury, Bernard recorded three tackles and two pass breaks in the game on Sunday.
Prior to their AFC Divisional playoff matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, the Buffalo Bills are dealing with a number of significant injury concerns; however, pregame reports are providing some insight into the health of a few important players.
Taron Johnson, an All-Pro cornerback for the Bills, has reportedly cleared the concussion protocol and is expected to play against Kansas City.
The knee of Bills star cornerback Rasul Douglas is labeled as questionable, with NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe stating that he is “optimistic he’ll play but a pregame workout there to confirm.” He was not present for the Steelers’ playoff victory.
But linebacker Terrel Bernard of the Bills, who was taken off against Pittsburgh due to an ankle injury, is a game-time decision and doesn’t seem likely to play.
“Bills LB Terrel Bernard (ankle) not expected to play but they may give him a shot to workout today, per source,” Wolfe wrote on Twitter.
Undoubtedly, Buffalo’s two most crucial defensive backs are Johnson and Douglas. Johnson recorded a career-high 98 total tackles in the regular season in addition to one sack, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and eight passes defensed. Despite only appearing in nine regular-season games for the Bills, Douglas—a midseason trade acquisition from the Green Bay Packers—tallied a team-high four interceptions, one sack, two fumble recoveries, eight passes defended, and one score.
