The Boston Celtics have finally provided the last injury updates for two of their best players.
The Boston Celtics lost to the Denver Nuggets at home on Friday night, their first loss of the season. They will now travel to three different locations to play their next games, beginning on Sunday night against the Houston Rockets. Al Horford and Jrue Holiday, two of the team’s top six players, were listed on the injury report prior to this one, so we now know if they will play against Houston or not.
Due to a right elbow sprain sustained in the team’s loss to Denver, Holiday was doubtful going into this game, and the C’s were considering sitting the seasoned big man. Holiday and Horford will not be playing for the Celtics against the Rockets, as Boston will be erring on the side of caution with both players.
Holiday has been a dependable presence for Boston this season on both ends of the court. In his absence, Derrick White will likely play a larger role in this game, and Jaylen Brown will probably move into the backcourt to support him. The C’s have given Horford rest days on a few occasions this season in an effort to keep him healthy, and this is just one of those occasions.
Due to their absences, Payton Pritchard, Luke Kornet, and Neemias Queta will probably play more minutes off the bench this game; however, with the other elite players on this team, the Celtics should be able to win this game against the Rockets. The best team in the NBA should still be the favorite to defeat Houston on Sunday night, even though they’d obviously much rather have both Holiday and Horford available.
