The Steelers have just announced another unexpected great signing…
Pittsburgh — Seventeen players have signed reserve/future contracts with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
According to a release, a large number of the signed players were previously members of the team’s practice squad.
The following players have signed contracts: cornerback Luq Barcoo, guard Joey Fisher, offensive lineman Jonathan Marshall, center Ryan McCollum, wide receiver Denzel Mims, running back Aaron Shampklin, defensive lineman Jacob Slade, wide receiver Duece Watts, offensive tackle Devery Hamilton, offensive tackle Anderson Hardy, safety Jalen Elliott, offensive tackle Kellen Diesch, and wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick.
In 2024, one player from the New Orleans Saints of 2023 will be playing somewhere else. Marquez Callaway, a wide receiver on the Saints practice squad who was one of three players cut following the season, has signed a reserve/future contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In three games this year, Callaway, 25, only amassed 28 offensive snaps without drawing a single target. In 2021, he made an impression on the Saints with 46 receptions for 698 yards and 6 touchdown catches, but he hasn’t quite reached those levels since. Last season, he followed Sean Payton to the Denver Broncos but was not able to join the squad.
He will now make an attempt in Pittsburgh. The Saints only have three receivers signed for 2024: Michael Thomas, who is expected to be dismissed in a procedural move in March, Chris Olave, and A.T. Perry. Rashid Shaheed, an All-Pro return specialist with no exclusive rights, is anticipated to return on a minimum salary and won’t be qualified for a true extension until 2025. Notable Saints free agent receivers include Keith Kirkwood and restricted free agent Lynn Bowden Jr.
