The Philadelphia Flyers’ best player has announced his retirement and agreed to terms on a new deal with a different team.

It looks like Samuel Morin’s hockey career is coming to an end.

During his end-of-season availability, Philadelphia Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher stated that the 26-year-old defenseman will not be able to recover from a string of knee injuries.

Samuel Morin won’t be able to play hockey again, according to Fletcher. That’s unfortunate; I’m so sorry for the child.

According to Fletcher, a job offer will be made to the Lac-Beauport, Quebec resident.

Morin, a 2017 NHL rookie, was originally selected with the eleventh overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft out of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. While playing for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the 2018 Calder Cup playoffs, he suffered an ACL tear. In a regular-season AHL game in 2019, Morin would tear his ACL once more. This past fall, he underwent another knee surgery.

Although Morin would eventually make a comeback to play in 20 NHL games this season, he was declared ineligible to play in the playoffs in January.

Should Morin’s career come to an end, he will have played in 29 NHL seasons and netted one goal.

Morin competed internationally for Canada, playing a part in the team that won the gold medal at the 2015 World Junior Hockey Championships in Toronto.
